“Project Proposal”

I. I am studying Cleopatra because I want to learn how she was able to rule and influence Egypt as Queen on her own for so long. I also want to learn how her legacy impacted women today.

II. Cleopatra not only influenced today’s society of independent women, but she also influenced much of the world around us today.

IV. I found multiple credible sources from websites such as Britannica, Ted Ed, UCLA, Time Magazine, etc. My method of evaluation for picking sites had to do with my knowledge of which sources are credible for example Britannica and Ted Ed has been used multiple times by some previous instructors and I know that they are peer-reviewed sites, so it means that they have been researched and edited to the best of their abilities. One thing that I learned from reading these sources is that we know a little about Cleopatra and we would know more, but most of what we know about her is from people who came years and years after her death. I also found that there are not many primary resources because of reason stated above.

One thing that I did not know about her that I learned from Joyce Tyldesley, in her book about the Pharaoh, was that she spoke several languages, was college level and above educated, and had many enemies. Also the main reason for her conflict with Rome was because Julius Caesar would not name their son as his heir to the empire and I learned that from the Netflix Documentary, “Queen Cleopatra”. I plan to use these resources to further my point that her influence is still present in today’s society.
